Its like eating corner chinese take-out at a palace in China. Fancy surroundings and ornate gold forks , knives and chopstick holders ..great service. But the food, it was terrible. Came out cold. Was overpriced too. If you want you can go in for a drink and an app just to see it, then move on. If you want really good chinese food mosy go to chinatown on mott or bayard street and get real food and leave this for the chinese businessmen and tourists.

Disclaimer: Had delivery only from this place. Neither the quality of the ingredients nor the preparation of my Empress Beef order were different from the plain old Beef with Broccoli that I get at my favorite Chinese joint where I live. The only difference, it tasted not as salty. I was expected to be "Wow" for the 18 dollar portion.

Two stars is generous - while the appetizers were decent, the main courses ("supreme" chicken was one - nothing supreme about it) were close to tasteless - I would have considered it good had it been purchased for $6 at "China King" hole in the wall in Queens, but we expected much better and didn't receive it. Not only that, they ran out of rice. Let me repeat that, a four dollar sign Chinese restaurant in midtown Manhattan ran out of rice. And finally, most frustrating, they made us wait literally 20 minutes between courses. We skipped desert after realizing we had been there for over an hour and a half and had gotten through two courses.Don't go here, instead walk a block north of it on Lex, turn right on 52nd, walk half a block towards 3rd and eat at Chipotle.

Overprice? You bet, for Chinese food this place will cost you an arm and leg. The food is more Westernized to fit the taste buds in the area. So don't come here expecting authentic Chinese food because you will be disappoint. But the food here itself is really good and presentation is beautiful. This place is one of the most beautiful restaurant I ever been to. High ceiling, art deco, and inside a landmark building. Very pink, romantic, and relaxing type of place. The chairs are very comfortable that I didn't want to get up. I really love the big pink booths too. You get hot towels as you sit down, ladies get orchids, and at the end of the meal you get mint chocolates with your bill they don't have fortune cookies I asked.Couple of unique things about this place, gold chopstick display of famous people who dined their. The really cool scientific coffee maker made right by your table. The cool gold thing to hold your soup and rice. The little lemon sorbet and cute little spoon. I recommend getting the peking duck here, they wrap it in front of you. Also, the trio appetizer you get crispy beef, lovers dumpling, and spring roll. So tasty! This place is really great for special occasions or to treat yourself to a nice and relaxing place. On to the service, yes it was a little slow when we were there that will be the only thing I will complain about. Don't forget to take some free matches at the front on your way out.

Went with the family for Christmas Eve dinner. Hadn't been here in a very long time. Still elegant with perfect service. The food is outstanding, My mongolian lamb was a mouthwatering delight as was the seafood won ton soup. My Daughter's prawns were gigantic and tasty. My other Daughter had a wonderful duck roll and pork tenderloin as an entree. Prices are high here but the quality and the service are top notch. Everything about the place is elegant and special which is what I was hoping for. Well worth coming back to.

Came for lunch on Saturday. I was very impressed by the decor, and embarrassed that I showed up in jeans, a tshirt, and kicks. The silverware is impressive, although the ivory looking chop sticks made me sad.I'm not a fan of Chinese food (came as a favor to a friend, so I won't comment on the food very much). I will say that I enjoyed my plate a lot more after I added hot sauce. Also, I ordered the honey glazed walnuts as an appetizer. They gave me like, fifteen walnuts on a GIANT plate. It looked comical and my friend laughed as I realized that I'd spent $10 on a bag of cold walnuts that I could have gotten at trader joe's.We were served by two waiters. The second was a distinguished older gentleman, and it was like a throwback to a more dignified time. I was very impressed. The first was awful. We just sat down when he ran up and asked us what we wanted to drink. I ordered a coke, and he brought out a diet coke. I had to correct him. My friend asked for the wine list, and he told her that wines from the list are by the bottle and if she just wanted a glass it would be the house red or house white. So, that's fine, her next question was "well what is the house red?" He looked at her, mouth agape. He clearly had no idea, but then I told him he could go check and come back to us. I was frustrated; pushy staff really get on my nerves. He came back with two bottles of open red wine, and she picked one. So much for a house red...I spent fifty bucks on lunch, and it was not worth it. That said, if you're looking for an excellent ambiance and possibly good service, and Chinese food is your thing, and you like the price point, then I'd give Mr. K's a try.

This place has some serious issues. I didn't really like it the first time, but I went back again to give them another chance, as I believe in giving chances(under certain circumstances). It's not the service, it's the food. Service is superb, food sucks. Such a fake. They arrange takeout food on a plate and garnish it to make it look fancy. Menu is just plain BORING!

To describe this place as "tired," would probably be a compliment as it implies that it could have at one time had some vigor. The interior decorations definitely reflect this. Everything is over the top, yet obviously old and faded. The food is overpriced and uninspiring. The beef pan seared dumplings were quite good, however my entree of "crispy fish," could not really be described as crispy; I'm not even sure that it was any sort of fish that I could identify. The service was attentive yet inexpert and awkward. They definitely try to push drinks on you. I had a third of my second martini left when they asked me if I would like another. (I did, later on as the Martini's are good.) I don't even think that I ordered my third martini and they delivered it anyway.I wouldn't recommend it.

I have read most of the reviews and must chime in.Considering the location, I think that the pricing is excellent. The food was great, I particularly enjoyed the crispy beef and the Peking duck. While portions of the crispy beef tempted me to order a second round, my friends and I left quite satisfied by the end of the meal.Mr. K's is an excellent compromise between Americanized Chinese food and traditional fare you would find in a side street restaurant in China Town.

So so Chinese food in an upscale setting. Love high end variations of Chinese dishes with a slant towards Szechuan and won't venture into areas like Chinatown for "authentic" Chinese when I have to question if the chicken is chicken and beef beef, and then of course the second question what type of cut?I'm a lover of Montreal Chinese which it seems you can't find emulated anywhere that restaurateur George Lau was very successful in introducing his take on great Chinese dishes with great flavors. So I came here with great expectations since this is New York, the best food in the US or so they say in New York. Spring rolls were ok, duck sauce tasteless, chicken with macadamia nuts used verifiable slices of chicken with real macadamia nuts but the dish other than sauced did not have any outstanding or even good flavor and the sesame beef which was a very tender beef also did not have any noticeable flavor. But I do Like the restaurant and service was very good. Although some reviewers have complained about the prices those are my expectations and no complaints from me in this regard. That being said no need to come back.

So first with the bad...overpriced and ridiculously fancy atmosphere...gold everything...forks, spoons, plates, bowls. The chopsticks were most likely made from ivory. The servers and staff weren't made of gold or ivory, but dressed as if they emerged from Hong Kong circa 1924. I half expected Temple of Doom Indiana Jones to appear in his white dinner jacket and start a ruckus in the place. Don't show up in too under dressed; they didn't seem to mind but we definitely felt out of place. Now on to the good. The food warrants its reputation. Hands down best hot and sour soup I've ever had...flavorful and zesty with that delayed bite of heat that makes you want to eat more and more, served of course in a golden chaffing bowl complete with a candle to keep it warm. Lo mein was as good as lo mein gets and the szechaun beef was incredibly flavorful, very tender, and not too heavy nor laden with sauce.Definitely worth the stop but not if you're looking for that hole in the wall New York Chinese food experience.
